Heaven: Bourque and Avalanche Win the Cup After 22 seasons in the NHL Ray Bourque finally got a chance to raise the Stanley Cup on Saturday night. Alex Tanguay, who was born the same year that Bourque entered the NHL, scored two goals and Joe Sakic added another as the Avalanche defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-1 to clinch the Stanley Cup Finals. The Devils were down 3-0 when they got their goal from Peter Sykora but it proved too little, too late. Patrick Roy had another dominant performance in goal and earned his third career Conn Smythe Trophy as series MVP. But this was, and always will be, Ray's day. |
